Headwear is worn to prevent contamination from the hair of healthcare personnel (e.g., operating room personnel, sterile supply personnel). OSHA regulations require that surgical caps or hoods be worn in situations when gross contamination can reasonably be anticipated. Patients having surgery also generally wear headwear.
